Twisted seagrass cord can be used for chair seating and basketry. Color starts greenish and will age to a mellow brown over time. It is great for ladderbacks or any chair with 4 round/squared seat rails, but not for converting from upholstered chairs or caned chairs.
Handling Notes
- Soak for 10 minutes in warm water before working on chair seats (over-soaking makes it harder to handle)
- Can be woven in rush/envelope or warp/weft patterns
- For maintenance, regularly vacuum dust and debris
- Not suitable for outdoor seating
Why is this material important to you?
Great for a variety of applications in chair seat weaving and basketry. Less unruly than pre-twisted natural rush, and gives a more natural look to chair seats than paper fiber rush. Seen on Nakashima chairs and British footstools.
