A length of woven tape in tan with deep burgundy edges and a narrow black stripe running down the centre.

Shaker tape is cotton strapping originally developed by the religious sect of the same name. It's a great beginning weaver material, easy and quick to weave and pattern/color variations are endless.

Composition

Cotton

Handling Notes

  • For trapezoidal chairs, short pieces must be tacked to side rails before weaving
  • Using 1-in. tape speeds up weaving but results in a blockier pattern; ⅝ tape creates more intricate designs and a tighter seat
  • Seats should be padded with foam
  • For maintenance, vacuum off dust and debris
  • Not suitable for outdoor use
