A pounded ash splint is a growth ring of the ash tree cut into various widths and lengths. It is used for basketry and chair seating.

Handling Notes

  • Soak before weaving using a warp/weft method
  • Splice bark by notching both ends, overlapping them, and tying with waxed linen or twine
  • While not ideal for outdoor seating, it is quite durable
